Our History

The Foundation of UNCOMN

The Foundation of UNCOMN

Jason Carter founded “Aegis Strategies” in 2010 and quickly landed its first subcontract, which was under IBM and provided IT Portfolio Management services to USTRANSCOM. As the only member of the company, Jason worked 40+ hours a week, took business calls from the parking lot in his Volvo, and began building the business.

In 2011, Jason hired his little brother, Jeff Carter, as Employee #1 in support of a GeoDecisions subcontract. Jim Phelps, the company’s second partner, began providing his 25+ years of Army logistics and strategic planning knowledge. The company operated much like a startup, with limited systems or corporate tools; Jason ran all the accounting work through a single license of QuickBooks.

etween January 2014 and December 2015, Nick Powers would join the company as the third partner, bringing his technological expertise across software development, cybersecurity, and cloud engineering. This time period would mark the company’s first growth phase, growing from 15 to 65 employees across the two-year period.

UNCOMN Scales No Man's Land

On December 4th, 2019, UNCOMN won its largest contract to date in USTRANSCOM’s Enterprise Architecture, Data, and Engineering (EADE) contract, which was a five-year $175,000,000 indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract. Winning the EADE contract set UNCOMN on a path to “scale no man’s land” and prepare for small business graduation.

Continuous Investments for Our People

Continuous Investments for Our People

Between the EADE contract award and end of 2023, UNCOMN invested heavily into several key areas, such as the EADE campus facilities, implanting new HR systems (Kronos, and later Paycor), an ERP/accounting System (Unanet), and a Knowledge Management System (UGLInet). All of this was done in preparation for competing at scale with large businesses.

Now in 2024, UNCOMN enters its last year as a small business with a focus on becoming the Special Forces of Tech.

Our Industry Involvement

At UNCOMN, our team of thought-leaders brings clarity to complex technical systems and processes through curiosity, collaboration, and pure grit. We work with both, Federal & Commercial Clientele. We apply our domain knowledge, technical expertise and an agile systems engineering approach, which enable us to forge elegant, practical solutions and avoid further development of unintended consequences.

The integration of four-core capabilities gives us an edge over competitors who often create siloed solutions. We apply functional knowledge, technical expertise and economic assessment to the whole as well as the parts, providing solutions that improve enterprise-wide. Using a model-based systems engineering approach, we communicate with stakeholders throughout, take only thoughtful actions and fine-tune as needed. This empowers us to improve processes, develop solutions and assist in implementing organizational change without compromising integrity.

We work with you, respecting your feedback throughout the process and establishing measurable goals that keep us accountable. We respond to change rather than simply follow a plan.
